Community kitchens (also called collective kitchens) are community-based cooking programs where small groups of people, all contributing different skills, come together to prepare meals and take food home to their families. In a community kitchen every member contributes by preparing, and cooking food.
The Sharing Place has partnered with St. Paul's Centre and the Simcoe Muskoka Health Unit to pilot the Orillia Community Kitchen project. In doing this we are bringing action the Orillia Food Council’s strategic initiative to Enhance Local Food Knowledge and Food Literacy in the Community.
Workshops are free or low-cost for participants, with a strong emphasis on community skill sharing. Instead of a formal, top-down approach, anyone can facilitate a workshop, and we build on the strength of our collective knowledge.
Visit the Orillia Community Kitchen webpage for class schedule and more information.
