We have been awarded $4,000 to provide nutritious food for school aged children through The Rural Kids Grant Program. Despite occasionally grey skies and a few drops of rain, this year's Ashiko World Music Festival held September 9 on the Stephen Leacock Museum grounds was both an entertainment extravaganza and an outstanding fundraiser for The Sharing Place Food Bank. Supporters of The Sharing Place Food Bank have raised $1,767 for the Orillia food bank through an online fundraiser titled Kraft Food for Families. The fundraiser concluded on November 15, having reached the $50,000 goal established by Kraft Canada and Food Banks Canada. People across Canada were invited to click on www.kraftassists.ca, where they entered their name, email address and favourite food bank among the 30 listed. The Orillia Family Health Network recently donated $5,000 to The Sharing Place Food Bank and its mission of feeding the hungry in the Orillia area. The network operates the busy Orillia After Hours Medical Clinic and is made up of 21 family physicians.
